Hello parents and caregivers,
This week the students are finishing up our first math unit. The students focused on different ways to solve addition, and subtraction facts within the numbers 1-20. We have been working with number lines, number strings, number racks, and addition tables that the students created. We are also focusing on solving story problems. We are also continuing our unit on community helpers. The students will have many opportunities to research helpers in our community, and listen to guest speakers. Thank you to all of the parents that have volunteered to help us with this unit! We are also going to be brainstorming ideas to become better community helpers, ourselves. We will be starting a service learning project soon, to benefit our downtown community. Project Lead the Way is off to a great start! The students have begun to use the Scratch Junior app. to better understand coding. If your child has a tendency to have "accidents" at school, please make sure he/she has a change of clothes and underwear in their backpack. For those children that have an occasional accident, we do have underwear and clothing at school. But, our clothing pool is dwindling. If your child has borrowed some clothing because of an accident, please wash and return the clothes to school so we can have it for another child or another day. Also, feel free to donate any uniform clothing to our collection. Please feel free to keep the underwear, those do not need to brought back. -Mrs. Melman
