Hello parents and caregivers,
Our Bedlam Food Drive is in full swing this week! The students have done an excellent job of sorting and organizing the donations. Friday will be the last day to bring donations. The winner will be announced at the end of the day Friday. The winner gets to wear their team shirt on Wednesday! We are beginning a new unit in social studies this week. The students are learning about continents and oceans, map reading skills, and landforms. We are also beginning a new math unit. Addition and Subtraction within one hundred, and laying the foundation for geometry. We will also continue our work on telling time. -Mrs. Melman

Hello parents and caregivers,
This week we are wrapping up our unit on national, and local government. The take home project is due Monday, November 14th. We will also be holding a mock election for a second grade representative at the end of the week. Each class voted on a student that would represent them, and be a fair decision maker. Each class representative will give a speech Friday explaining why they should be chosen. I am excited to see the results! As you may know second grade is organizing a school wide food drive! The students will be making posters, newsletters, and videos to help spread awareness to parents and students. They will also help sort, and store the food. We will be sending out a sign up for parent volunteers to help sort food the week of November 28 - December 2! Be looking for more information in Thursday Folders next week! -Mrs. Melman Hello parents and caregivers,

I will keep you informed as I receive more information. As you may know second grade is organizing a school wide food drive! Since the weather is changing, we are seeing students in their fall attire This is to remind you that leggings and socks are to be the solid colors of blue, black, white and brown. Patterns are not part of the uniform. If you have questions regarding the uniform or our uniform policy, please contact Mrs. Fulmer. Also, our "Lost and Found" tote is overflowing with jackets and sweaters. Feel free to check the tote which is located by the elevator for your child's clothing. We are also requesting that you put your child's name somewhere on their coats and jackets so we can get them back to their rightful owners. Salvation Army will be here to pick everything that is left on November 18th. -Mrs. Melman Hello parents and caregivers,
With cooler weather coming in, remember to label your child’s outerwear. Our lost and found is already filling with unclaimed jackets! Students are not able to wear non-dress code jackets in the classroom, however, they may wear them outside. This week we are continuing our work on double digit addition and subtraction. It is important that students solidify this skill in second grade, it is a building block in their math education. The students are also working to tell time. We will continue to dive into our national, and local government next week. There will be a take home project November 7th. It will be due Monday, November 14th. I will be sending home a Scholiastic book order form at the end of the week. Scholastic provides affordable at home reading materials for students. Any purchase made also earns our classroom points for free books! -Mrs. Melman |
