Hello parents and caregivers,
The Fall Festival will be tomorrow, Friday, September 30th. It will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will end at 8:00 p.m. October Blast Off is scheduled for Monday, October 10th. Third grade will be presenting this month’s Blast off. This is also the day to “Wear a Red Shirt for Red Ribbon Week and Fire Prevention Month.” Please make sure students are still wearing uniform bottoms! For the next few weeks the students will be learning ways to proofread their writing. They are learning editing marks, and will be using them to revise their rough drafts. We will also begin learning about the three branches of government this week, as well as continuing to learn about computer science through project lead the way. A quick reminder that if a students jacket does not meet the dress code they will not be able to wear them in the classroom, however they will be able to wear them out to recess. Continue to make sure any jackets or sweaters your rocket brings to school have their name in them. -Mrs. Melman

Hello parents and caregivers,
This week the students are finishing up our first math unit. The students focused on different ways to solve addition, and subtraction facts within the numbers 1-20. We have been working with number lines, number strings, number racks, and addition tables that the students created. We are also focusing on solving story problems. We are also continuing our unit on community helpers. The students will have many opportunities to research helpers in our community, and listen to guest speakers. Thank you to all of the parents that have volunteered to help us with this unit! We are also going to be brainstorming ideas to become better community helpers, ourselves. We will be starting a service learning project soon, to benefit our downtown community. Project Lead the Way is off to a great start! The students have begun to use the Scratch Junior app. to better understand coding. If your child has a tendency to have "accidents" at school, please make sure he/she has a change of clothes and underwear in their backpack. For those children that have an occasional accident, we do have underwear and clothing at school. But, our clothing pool is dwindling. If your child has borrowed some clothing because of an accident, please wash and return the clothes to school so we can have it for another child or another day. Also, feel free to donate any uniform clothing to our collection. Please feel free to keep the underwear, those do not need to brought back. -Mrs. Melman Hello parents and caregivers,
I hope you all are enjoying your long weekend! Remember, there will be no school on Friday, September 2nd, or Monday, September 5th. Thank you all for making our conference day so enjoyable! I loved hearing more about the kids and cannot wait to see all of their smiling faces on Tuesday. Tuesday we will be presenting our projects and wrapping up our space unit. Next, we will be focusing on community helpers. Please let me know if you, yourself, are a community helper and would like to speak with the class. We will also be going on our first walking field trip to the library on Tuesday! Make sure your child is wearing appropriate shoes. Have a great weekend! -Mrs. Melman |
