The students will be making posters, newsletters, and videos to help spread awareness to parents and students. They will also help sort, and store the food. Since the weather is changing, we are seeing students in their fall attire This is to remind you that leggings and socks are to be the solid colors of blue, black, white and brown. Patterns are not part of the uniform. If you have questions regarding the uniform or our uniform policy, please contact Mrs. Fulmer. Also, our "Lost and Found" tote is overflowing with jackets and sweaters. Feel free to check the tote which is located by the elevator for your child's clothing. We are also requesting that you put your child's name somewhere on their coats and jackets so we can get them back to their rightful owners. Salvation Army will be here to pick everything that is left on November 18th. -Mrs. Melman Hello parents and caregivers,
With cooler weather coming in, remember to label your child’s outerwear. Our lost and found is already filling with unclaimed jackets! Students are not able to wear non-dress code jackets in the classroom, however, they may wear them outside. This week we are continuing our work on double digit addition and subtraction. It is important that students solidify this skill in second grade, it is a building block in their math education. The students are also working to tell time. We will continue to dive into our national, and local government next week. There will be a take home project November 7th. It will be due Monday, November 14th. I will be sending home a Scholiastic book order form at the end of the week. Scholastic provides affordable at home reading materials for students. Any purchase made also earns our classroom points for free books! -Mrs. Melman Hello parents and caregivers,
November snack calendar went home Monday in blue daily folders, there is a copy available on the school website if you misplace yours! Just a reminder that students should be reading every night at home for 20 minutes. I have provided questions for deep thinking and discussion at home. These questions will help students become critical thinkers. As many of you may remember from last year, our students will be using an internet search engine for kids called pebblego. Pebble go is easy for students to use, and provides content knowledge on a variety of subjects. We will be using it in the classroom to research specific topics as a class and individually. I have attached our school login information so that students can also use it at home. Enrichment clusters will begin tomorrow, October 28th! Enrichment clusters will take place on Friday’s at the end of the day for 6 weeks. Students have the opportunity to explore a topic that they find interesting, with fellow students across 1st through 4th grade with that same interest. It is a great way to learn new skills, and to build our school community. If you have any questions, please let me know. We are hosting a very special Veteran's Day Blast Off! on Friday, Nov. 11th at 8:00 a.m. in JRCES Gym. We are inviting parents, grandparents, and family members that have served or are serving in the military to join us in honoring our Military Veterans. Please let Mrs. Fulmer know if you or a family member will be participating so we can have enough reserved seating for you. Students are encouraged to wear Red, White, & Blue shirts with uniform bottoms that day. -Mrs. Melman Healthy Snacks – Our board policy requires that students shall not have access to Food of Minimal Nutritional Value except for on special occasions.
Please help us model healthy eating habits when you send snacks to school. Some ideas for healthy snacks include: fresh fruits or vegetables, pretzels, granola bars, banana chips, whole grain cereal, and nuts or cheese (if there are no food allergies). The other parents in your child’s class will appreciate it! Hello parents and caregivers,
The Fall Festival will be tomorrow, Friday, September 30th. It will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will end at 8:00 p.m. October Blast Off is scheduled for Monday, October 10th. For the next few weeks the students will be learning ways to proofread their writing. They are learning editing marks, and will be using them to revise their rough drafts. We will also begin learning about the three branches of government this week, as well as continuing to learn about computer science through project lead the way. A quick reminder that if a students jacket does not meet the dress code they will not be able to wear them in the classroom, however they will be able to wear them out to recess. Continue to make sure any jackets or sweaters your rocket brings to school have their name in them. -Mrs. Melman |
